Install CMS on a Dedicated Server

This is a reserved area designed to assist those who have purchased Church Management Solutions products.

In this situation, you may have a dedicated server.  This is a computer that will not function as a workstation, but as file server.

 On the file server, create a Shared Folder (i.e. APPS) and allow full read/write access to your CMS users to this APPS folder and subfolders on the network .

 NOTE: You must allow network users to change the files in the CMS4WIN and/or FIN4WIN folder!

 On each workstation, map a drive letter to the APPS folder on the server.  Go to My Computer and from the pull down menu, choose Tools | Map Network Drive.

 Click the Browse button and use Network Neighborhood to browse to the Server Name and \CMS4WIN or \FIN4WIN folder.  Verify the checkmark at Reconnect at Logon.

 Click Finish.

On the first workstation, insert the CMS Installation CD in your CD drive.  The setup should begin automatically.

 Click the Install CMS Products button to begin the setup wizard.

 Click Next at the Welcome screen.

Click the button CMS People Products if you wish to install/reinstall the following modules:

· CMS Membership

· CMS Contribution

· CMS Attendance

· CMS Outreach

 Click the button at CMS Fund Accounting if you wish to install/reinstall the following the following modules:

· CMS Ledger & Payables

· CMS Payroll

 

Reinsert the CD to start the setup again for installing an additional product.

The installation wizard will ask if you wish to scan for a previous installation, answer Yes.

 You must verify the location for your CMS System.

 The Default Location for your CMS People Products is Z:\CMS4WIN.

 The Default Location for your CMS Fund Accounting System  is Z:\FIN4WIN.

 Click Next.

You can customize the Membership Status tables in CMS for your church denomination.

Select the appropriate denomination and click Next.

If installing CMS Fund Accounting Products, you can choose to install a Generic or Catholic Chart of Accounts. 

If you would prefer to enter your own chart of accounts, or if you have purchased a Chart of Accounts, choose Blank Chart of Accounts and click Next.

Next confirm your installation settings and click Next.

The installation wizard will proceed to install your CMS.  After a few moments, you will be asked if you would like to add the CMS icon to your desktop.  Answer Yes.

 Next, you can choose to print installation instructions for a New Installation (for new clients) or for a Re-Installation (for existing clients with new computers).  Choose the appropriate instructions and click Next.

 A set of instructions will display on your screen.  Print these instructions.  Click Finish.  Double click the CMS icon on your Windows Desktop. Use  the Password CMS and click OK.

Workstation installation and setup

Before beginning installation, you must map a drive letter to the server’s drive C: (\\servername\apps).

 Go to My Computer and from the pull down menu, choose Tools | Map Network Drive.

 Click the Browse button and use Network Neighborhood to browse to the Server Name.  Select the C folder.  Verify the checkmark at Reconnect at Logon. Click Finish.

Insert the CMS Installation CD in your CD drive.  The setup should begin automatically.

 Click the Install CMS Products button to begin the setup wizard.

 Click Next at the Welcome screen.

 Click the checkbox at either the CMS People Products Workstation installation or the CMS Fund Accounting Workstation Installation.

 The installation wizard will ask if you wish to scan for a previous installation, answer Yes.

You must verify the location for your CMS System.

 The Destination Folder should be the network drive letter you mapped above.

If the destination folder defaults to another location, click the Browse button and choose the mapped drive letter.

 Click Next.

Confirm your installation settings and click Next.

The installation wizard will proceed to install your CMS. 

 After a few moments, you will be asked if you would like to add the CMS icon to your desktop.  Answer Yes.

Double click the CMS icon on your Windows Desktop.

 This workstation installation is now complete!
